Games Digest: July 2012

Games Digest is a breakdown of the games Brittany or Matt have recently played. For each game, we will share our thoughts on the game to create a brief impression, focusing on the high or low points of a game. At the end, we will make a recomendation for who should play the game.

The Amazing Spider-Man: The Video Game

The Amazing Spider-Man: The Video Game brings Spider-Man back to open world Manhattan. Smaller and more restricted than previous Spider-Man games with open worlds, it feels like a few steps back. However, the combat in this game borrows heavily from the Batman "Arkham" series games, making this Spider-Man game my favorite for combat. Never before has a game captured the way Spider-Man fights as this game has, rewarding the player with fluid animations that bring to life Spider-Man's sense to have complete control over the momentum and flow of a fight. The story takes place shortly after the movie, so there are spoilers if you haven't seen the film yet.

Who it's for: Any fan of Spider-Man, or the Arkham series Batman games.

Walking Dead: The Game Episode 2

Walking Dead: The Game Episode 2 is finally out. More of an interactive TV episode than a video game, this series continues to tell one of the most compelling, intense, character driven stories I've ever seen in a video game. While it borrows a lot of its gameplay from point and click adventure games, Walking Dead: The Game Episode 2 has a lot of choices that are timed, leaving you to really think on your feet. It's one of the most intense video games I've ever played. I'm interested in seeing how the consequences of my choices play out in Episode 3.

Who it's for: Fans of Walking Dead (the TV show, or the comic), zombie fans, adventure game fans, or anyone who wants to play a game with a mature, compelling story.

Mush

Mush is a Windows Phone 7 exclusive platformer that allows the player to change the emotion of the cute little creature you control. You move Mush by tilting the phone, and change the emotion by drawing on the screen. Draw a smiley face for happy, a frown for sad, and so on. Each emotion controls the ability of Mush. It’s a bunch of fun, and has a really storybook feel in the music and art style.

Who it's for: Windows Phone 7 users who are looking for a great exclusive game with a high production value.
