Dead Rising 2: Case Zero Review

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero is the downloadable X-Box Live Arcade (and X-Box exclusive) prequel to Dead Rising 2. The short game is meant to bridge the gap between Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2. It tells the story of Chuck Greene, a pro stunt man who is driving across the Zombie infested United States into Fortuane City (Las Vegas) with his daughter, and is forced to stop at a small desert town along the way. This is where the game starts you off, and you find out more about Chuck, his daughter, and his mission.

The game is more of the Dead Rising gameplay you love or hate. Pick up anything and use it as a weapon against the hundreds of zombies that infest the town. There are survivors to rescue and even a psycho to fight. Additionally, Chuck can combine things he finds in the world to make new, ridiculous weapons for zombie slaughter. The drill-bucket had me laughing, while the boomstick (pitchfork attached to a shotgun) was incrediblly usefull.

The downside of Dead Rising 2: Case Zero is that the time limit from Dead Rising is back. It will be back in the second game, istself too. And while this is an interesting gameplay elementin the main game, the time limit in Case Zero it feels like its not quite long enough. And because of that time limit, the game is very short... it took me a little over an hour to play through, getting every survivor and completing every part of the main mission.

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero is tons of fun if you liked the gameplay of the first one. If you didn't play the first one, this may be your chance to jump in and see if you like it. Dead Rising 2: Case Zero is only 400MSP, or $5. Yep, its cheap! The price is perfect for the length and the gameplay you get. The story is interesting, and much better than Dead Rising's already. And the gameplay is a blast. For what you get for your money, Dead Rising: Case Zero is completly worth it, and worth picking up for Dead Rising fans and newcomers to the series alike. This shouldn't be missed.
